Description
This Totem Figure is a limited edition creation by Kevin Gadomski and his son Tanner. Each Totem Figure is hand signed, Dated and is a numbered edition. This is The Polar Bear and is number 23 of 100 of this limited edition. Tanners native heritage is from the Turtle Clan of the Grand Portage Band of the Ojibway, on his mothers side, whose grandmothers on both sides were full Anishinabe as well as his grandfather who was half Cree. Kevin and his son Tanner have signed and dated the Totem in 2011. The Polar Bear Totem measures approximately 22 3/4 inches tall from the base of the Totem to the top of the fishing spear.
The Ojibway believe every animal has its own individual fits and unique talents and power. Animals were chosen as personal totems by one who hoped to gain an animals special powers through emulating that animals behavior and characteristics. Animals have the ability to sense the changes of the world, the seasonal changes and the coming of things.
Polar Bears are considered to be a source of power and invulnerability. They are believed to have great healing abilities and as having wisdom, strength courage and decisiveness. The Polar Bear can be referred to as The beast that walks like a human because they rise onto their back feet and their foot print resembles that of a human. This Polar Bear is represented with a native design on its dressing. The spear and knife represent its constant quest of seal and fish which is its main diet.
Why is the Polar Bear white? Once, so long ago this land was covered with white ice and much snow. Then, Mother Earth was transformed and a gigantic rain forest began to grow. Trees soon sprouted that touched the very sky and over this new realm, the Raven did fly. In his wisdom, Raven knew that we must always remember the land of long ago. So, he swooped down and magically changed a bears fur to white. Raven decided that every tenth bear will now become snow white. He named the white ones Moksgmol or Spirit Bear. With great delight even today you might witness something truly of the spirit world. Each and every spring as the tiny newborn bears eagerly emerge from their dens in the magnificent woodlands of the world, the Raven still silently sits in the trees counting nine black ones and cawing joyously at the tenth.
