Description
This is a significant Navajo handcrafted Bolo Tie by artist L Bruce Hodgins. This unique and beautiful Bolo Tie features a large heavy Sterling Silver center Turtle design with a center Orange Spiny Oyster Shell. The Sterling Silver Bolo Tips are Sterling Silver with accompanying Sterling Silver Turtle artwork with Orange Spiny Oyster Shell. The substantial Leather bolo on this piece has been all hand braded by the artist. The reverse of the center work of art is signed by Bruce noted as LBH and is stamped Sterling as are both Turtle works of art attached to the Silver Tips.
The Center work of art measures approximately 5 1/4 inch tall by 3 1/4 inches wide at the tallest and widest points. The silver tips measure approximately 5 inches long inclusive of the turtle art work. Overall length of the leather bolo including the silver tips is approximately 46 inches.
L Bruce Hodgins was born in Flagstaff, Arizona to a full-blooded Navajo mother and an Anglo Father. He is related to the great Navajo leader Chee Dodge. Hi Dine family roots are in the Crystal Toadlena area of New Mexico. Having grown up on the Hopi reservation where his father was Second Mesa Day School principal, Bruce gained insight into both Navajo and Hopi Culture.
Bruce has receive ribbons and awards at the Inter-tribal Ceremonial in Gallup, The Museum of Northern Arizona - Flagstaff, The Sharlot Hall Museum Indian Market, The Fort McDowell Indian Market, The Arizona State Museum Tucson and the Santa Fe Indian Market.
