Description

  • This is a beautiful Hopi handcrafted necklace in the overlay and detailed etching the Hopi are renowned for. This necklace is comprised of solid Sterling Silver and includes the design of the Kokopelli and Corn. The necklace measures approximately 16 inches around the neckline. Additional chain can easily be added for more length or attached shorter if desired. The center dangle on the necklace panel of the necklace adds approximately 1 3/8 inch to the neck profile of this piece.

  • The reverse of the necklace is signed by the Hopi artist with a Kokopolli trademark and is stamped Sterling.

  • The Anasazi or -Ancient Ones- were primarily farmers, growing corn, beans, and squash in the Four Corners area on the Colorado Plateau. Both the Basketmaker Period (dating at least from about 200 B.C.) and the Pueblo Period (dating from about 700 A.D.) include the humpbacked flute player among their supernaturals. The Kokopelli was thought to assist with the crops and was welcome during the planting and harvest season. No matter what form or how complete our understanding of his history, Kokopelli still brings wonder to our lives. The thin sound of his flute that once echoed off canyon walls still reverberates throughout the Southwest and the through the ages.
