This is a beautiful hand carved Zuni Buffalo fetish. This spectacular and unique fetish is hand carved from Fossil Ammonite into the shape of a Buffalo. The Buffalo includes Turquoise Eyes and a Turquoise Inlay Heartline. The fetish is signed by the Zuni Artists Clay and Abby Panteah noted as CAP. The fetish measures approximately 3 5/8 inhes long by 2 3/8 inches tall at the longest and tallest points. Total weight of this piece is 197.1 grams.

Zuni fetishes are hand-carved objects, which represent the spirits of animals or the forces of nature. The earliest fetishes are called Ahlashiwe or stone ancients by the Zunis. They were naturally formed stones that seemed to resemble people or animals, sometimes made more realistic with the features accentuated by a carver. Zunis believe that animals, as well as inanimate objects and the forces of nature, have a spirit force. It is bbelieved that the carved animal fetishes host that spiritual force and, if treated properly, will help their owners to overcome the problems facing them.

The Buffalo represents strength and fortitude. The proud Buffalo, unlike many other members of the animal world, never turns its back to wind, snow and rain - it will face the elements face forward the proud buffalo never turns its back and always faces trouble head on.
