Description

  • This is a Navajo handcrafted Naja Pendant, Necklace and Earring Set. The Naja and Earrings feature beautiful Turquoise Stones with a light brown matrix running throughout the stones. The reverse of the Naja is signed by the Navajo artist DOK and is stamped Sterling. The reverse of both Post Earrings are stamped Sterling. The necklace is a 18 inch solid Sterling Rope Chain.

  • The Pendant is approximately 2 1/2 inches long from the top of the bale to the bottom of the pendant by 2 inches wide at its widest point. The post earrings are approximately 3/4 long by 1/2 inch wide at the widest point.

  • Total weight of the Pendant is 13.1 grams, total weight of the pair of earrings is 5.9 grams and total weight of the Sterling Silver Chain is 4.5 grams.

  • It is believe that the Southwestern Indians first saw the Naja ornament on the horse bridles of the Spanish Conquistadors in the late 1500s and early 1600s. Captured or traded, these ornaments soon graced the necks of the local Native Americans. Their acquisition was a matter of pride, and as the generations came and went, the najahe or naja became symbolic and was associated through ceremony with crop fertility.
