  • This is a beautiful Hopi Clay Hand Coiled Pot. The pottery is all handcrafted design with black and auburn hand painted designs. This piece of art is signed by the Hopi artist S. Yesslith. This piece measures approximately 25 inches around the widest point and is approximately 11 1/2 inches tall.

  • Hopi potters draw on a tradition going back centuries. The ancestors of the Hopi made gray utility ware as long ago as A.D. 700. The ancient potters developed black on white styles, black on red, and finally polychromes. In the late 1800s, outsiders began to appreciate the artistry of Hopi potters. This new demand sparked what has been called the revival period for Hopi pottery. The Hopi pottery designs and symbols vary from one artist to the other. Designs are usually of eagles, parrots, roadrunners, migration patterns, eagle tail, kiva designs, pueblo style villages, rain & rain cloudss, lightning, water waves and other life germinating symbols such as corn. The pottery is made from clay products, formed, sanded and is usually polished. There are several colors of pottery, the majority is beige or tan color, some are white, and there is a new red color that is being used by a few potters.
